Shania Twain. Backstreet Boys. Two of the most incredible vocal powerhouses of the ‘90s together on one stage, singing Shania’s timeless ballad “From This Moment On” in 1999. It doesn’t get any better than this, folks! When fans heard this impeccable live vocal performance on one of the greatest love songs of all time, they had to agree that this era was peak for pop music. Shania recorded the collab at the Bayfront Park Amphitheater in Miami on January 17, 1999, for her television special Winter Break.
We’ve all heard Shania’s voice on the radio plenty of times, but one thing that doesn’t get talked about enough is that her live vocals are a work of art. Her voice has it all – the range, power, and emotional depth. Needless to say, Backstreet Boys were the perfect choice to combine with the Canadian star, as they delivered creamy line after creamy line while taking turns singing in harmony with the leading lady. The Music Man has to say that this has to be one of the greatest vocal collabs of the ‘90s!
Fan channel Mr. Reuben James uploaded the “From This Moment On” collab to YouTube, where it hit a monster 25.8 million views. Fans had to agree that Shania and Backstreet Boys made a killer combo, and added comments such as “No cell phones to record it. Nothing ruining the vocals. What a time to be alive! The harmonies are perfect. We will never experience this perfection again” and “I never knew this existed, but I’m sooooo glad I found it! Two absolute ‘90s icons performing together.”
It seems the best in the biz love to work with Shania. Another classic moment from the country pop megastar came when she performed Willie Nelson’s signature song “Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain” with Shotgun Willie himself! Willie is a total gentleman here and plays a classy supporting role with his twangy acoustic guitar playing on Trigger. He also adds yearning backing vocals that perfectly support Shania’s soulful lead vocal. The warm embraces they share at the end are just too cute.
Shania released “From This Moment On” as the fourth single from her 1997 studio album Come On Over. As with all tracks on the original album tracklisting, the Canadian hitmaker wrote the tune with her husband at the time, Mutt Lange, with her hubby also handling production. The Music Man readers may recall that “From This Moment On” was one of numerous hits from the album. The song went Platinum in the US, and double Platinum in Canada and Australia.
