Cher has filed for conservatorship of her troubled son Elijah Blue Allman’s estate following a string of arrests, claiming that his “drug dependency is at its worst.”
According to court documents, the music icon, 79, filed a petition to appoint a temporary conservator of her 49-year-old son’s estate earlier this week in Los Angeles Superior Court.
She requested that fiduciary Jason Rubin be in charge of her youngest child’s finances.
This is the second time Cher has filed for conservatorship of Allman’s estate; however, her previous petition requested that she be appointed the sole conservator.
“The life of Elijah Allman (‘proposed conservatee’) has significantly deteriorated since a prior conservatorship petition was filed in [December] 2023,” the new filing reads.
“The proposed conservatee is currently in custody in the State of New Hampshire in a locked psychiatric hospital in an attempt to restore him to competency to face criminal charges in two cases across two New Hampshire counties for: felony burglary criminal mischief, simple assault, criminal trespass and breach of bail, but that is just the current set of problems.”
According to Cher, Allman “has no concept of money, is unable to manage his financial resources and is unable to withstand fraud or undue influence” because of his “severe mental health and addiction issues.”
The Grammy winner claimed he “spends any money he gets immediately,” almost exclusively on “drugs, expensive hotels and limousine transportation.”
She went on to allege that her son has failed to “pay any income taxes,” failed to appear in court after his former wife, Marieangela King, obtained an order to receive spousal support and “had an $18,000 bill with a drug dealer who tracked him down, resulting in Elijah borrowing money from a friend in order to avoid being harmed.”
Allman also allegedly “has no awareness of consequences for the damage he caused at various Airbnbs where he had been staying; were it not for his friends and family cleaning up the financial and physical messes he made at those residences, he would have even more judgments against him.
“Elijah has no ability to manage money, and any dollar he receives from his father’s trust (his only source of income) is immediately squandered without regard for his liabilities or well-being.”
Allman — whose dad is Cher’s late ex-husband, fellow musician Gregg Allman — receives $120,000 a year via the trust, according to the court documents.
“There is a clear pattern in Elijah’s behavior,” Cher alleged. “After he receives his trust distribution, he checks into a hotel, usually the Chateau Marmont, buys and does drugs until he runs out of money, ends up in the hospital or overdoses. Based on this pattern, if Elijah were to receive his trust distribution, he will use it buy drugs.”
According to the singer, Elijah has caused “thousands of dollars in damages from cigarette burns in the rugs, beds, dressers, broken windows [and] walls” and “has been thrown out of a total of 18 hotels because he has made guests feel uncomfortable [by] screaming obscenities and acting erratically.”
Cher also claimed her son “has been exhibiting hyper-sexual behavior,” even once allegedly cornering a young hotel housekeeper and “aggressively” proposing sexual relations.
Moreover, she alleged he “was found in the middle of traffic passed out in his car. Emergency services responded and transported him to the hospital, where he was administered Narcan,” an opioid overdose reversal medication.
“There have been multiple occasions in which Elijah caused grease fires while cooking after zoning out and forgetting that food was on the stove,” she continued, adding, “Elijah’s situation has become dire on multiple fronts. His mental health has severely deteriorated, his financial situation is terrible and his drug dependency is at its worst.”
Cher went on to argue that it would also be “appropriate” to seek a conversatoriship of Elijah’s person once he’s back in California, calling him “gravely disabled.”
Elijah’s half-brother Devon Allman also submitted a declaration in support of Cher’s claims.
“It is my opinion that he is currently a danger to himself and unable to manage his life and any funds that would become available to him,” Devon, 53, wrote. “My recent visit to check in on him brought me unfortunate and profound sadness that took weeks of my life to process. His condition, both physical and mental, was appalling and delusional, respectively.”
Devon also alleged that he “had to negotiate with a heroin dealer for a five-figure sum of drug debts,” noting that it was “very difficult to navigate.”
Elijah previously objected to Cher’s 2023 estate conservatorship petition, insisting in his January 2024 response, “I am clean and sober from illicit substances for over 90 days now and am fully capable of and committed to managing the money I receive quarterly from the trust left by my late father.”
The songwriter ended up filing to dismiss her petition eight months later.
