The 2026 ISU World Figure Skating Championships has officially released its full list of competitors, bringing clarity after days of speculation that had spread across the skating world.
The championships, scheduled to take place from March 24 to March 29 in Prague, Czech Republic, will feature many of the sport’s biggest Olympic stars. But one major change has already shaken the ice dance field.
Three-time world champions Madison Chock and Evan Bates have officially withdrawn from the competition. The American duo, who recently captured silver at the 2026 Winter Olympics, will be replaced by fellow U.S. ice dancers Caroline Green and Michael Parsons.
The news ends days of confusion after rumors circulated online suggesting the pair might skip the event. At one point, Parsons briefly posted on social media that the report was “news to him,” saying he was still waiting for confirmation from the U.S. Figure Skating before quickly deleting the post.
With the official entry list now released, the lineup for the prestigious event is finally confirmed and it includes several Olympic medalists preparing for what could be one of the most competitive world championships in years.
Among the biggest names returning to the ice is American star Ilia Malinin, who will attempt to win his third consecutive world title after finishing eighth in the men’s event at the Milano Cortina Olympics. Malinin has already described the upcoming event as his “redemption competition.”
In the women’s field, Olympic champion Alysa Liu will aim to defend the world title she captured in Boston last year. She will be joined by fellow Americans Amber Glenn and Isabeau Levito.
Meanwhile, Japan’s Olympic silver medalist Kaori Sakamoto is also expected to compete in Prague in what she has indicated could be the final competition of her remarkable career before transitioning into coaching.
In the pairs competition, Olympic silver medalists Anastasiia Metelkina and Luka Berulava, along with bronze medalists Minerva Fabienne Hase and Nikita Volodin, will attempt to claim their first world title. Notably absent are reigning Olympic champions Riku Miura and Ryuichi Kihara, who are skipping the event due to the short turnaround following the Olympic Games.
The ice dance event may become one of the most closely watched battles of the week. Olympic champions Laurence Fournier Beaudry and Guillaume Cizeron are expected to headline the field as they chase a world title in their debut season as a team. They will face strong challenges from Canada’s Olympic bronze medalists Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier as well as Great Britain’s crowd-favorite duo Lilah Fear and Lewis Gibson.
With Olympic rivalries continuing and several rising teams making their world championship debuts, including the young U.S. pair Emilea Zingas and Vadym Kolesnik, the stage is set for a dramatic showdown on the ice.
