“It wasn’t just eye contact — it was a warning.” In a split second that barely lasted a breath, Bree and Stephen said everything without speaking. No raised voices. No dramatic confession. Just a look heavy with history, tension, and unfinished truth. Cat Missal explains that the moment wasn’t accidental. Every flicker in Bree’s eyes carried calculation — hurt layered over clarity. Stephen didn’t flinch, but something shifted. The silence between them felt louder than dialogue. This wasn’t romance. It wasn’t closure. It was recognition — the kind that changes the temperature of a room. And once seen, it can’t be unseen.

One look has the Tell Me Lies fandom spinning. As Bree (Cat Missal) walked down the aisle during her wedding to Evan (Branden Cook) in the Season 3 premiere, she turned to her right and caught the eye of none other than Stephen DeMarco (Jackson White).

Bree has never liked Stephen, ever since their college days, but this brief moment has launched a new round of wild theories about the possible hidden meaning behind that stare-down. Does Bree have the upper hand with Stephen, even though he just sent her the voice message where Evan admitted to sleeping with Lucy (Grace Van Patten) in college? Cat Missal spoke with Swooon about what’s going through Bree’s head in that charged moment with Stephen.

“She thinks she’s got the upper hand, for sure,” Missal said. “I think there’s just so much there. There’s so much history with this guy who’s just kind of been a wrecking ball to Lucy’s life, and I think that Bree is a very empathetic person, she’s a compassionate person, and for all of the mistakes that Lucy has made, she just feels so such conviction to love her and be her best friend. She probably needs her just as much as she thinks that Lucy needs Bree. I think that there’s just a charged element there because of the kind of protective quality.”

Before walking down the aisle, Bree ran out of the bridal suite after hearing the message Stephen sent her. Lucy followed her, but Bree didn’t bring up Evan’s confession. She actually said she, herself, was a “terrible person,” before adding, “I’m probably the worst person you know.”
